Beaches - Oahu

Be sure to heed the ocean safety guidelines.

Swim in areas with lifeguards
Never swim alone
Don't dive into unknown water or into shallow breaking waves
Ask a lifeguard about beach and surf conditions before swimming
If you are unable to swim out of a strong current, signal for help
Rely on your swimming ability rather than a flotation device
Look for, read and obey all beach safety signs and symbols
If in doubt, just stay out!

Diamond Head Beach Park
Beach Road, Waikiki

Swimming, board surfing, and diving One of the best windsurfing spots on the island.


Ehukai Beach
North Shore

Watch the winter surf contests and if experienced, try out the waves! Good for picnicking.


Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve
Honolulu, South Shore

Marine reserve located inside of a sunken volcanic crater. Come snorkeling and see tropical fish and other sea creatures.


Kailua Beach Park
Windward Oahu

White sandy beach with good swimming all year-round. Excellent windsurfing spot on Oahu.


Ko Olina Lagoons
Leeward Oahu

Beautiful lagoons with good snorkeling and swimming.


Kualoa Beach Park
Kaneohe, Windward Oahu

Calm, shallow waters so you can wade to an offshore island. Listed on the National Register of Historical Places.


Makaha Beach
Makaha, West Oahu

Golden sand beach good for swimming and snorkeling during the summer. International competition level surfing spot. Good snorkeling in the Makaha Caves, a series of underwater arches and caverns.


Malaekahana State Recreation Area
Kahuku, East Oahu

White sandy beach with a wood park in the background. Wade to the offshore Moku 'Auia Island, a state-owned bird sanctuary during low tide.


Pokai Bay Beach Park
Leeward Oahu

One of the safest swimming spots on the leeward side of the island.


Sandy Beach
South Shore

Advanced surfers only because of strong currents and undertow. High surf during the winter.


Sunset Beach
North Shore

A popular beach with the local Hawaiian people. Advanced surfing and body boarding.

South Shore

The most popular beach for tourists with a white sand beach for sunbathing and canoe rides, diving, sailing, swimming, snorkeling, and beginning surfing.
